How to get drunk cheap

Greg Hollin

1.     Before you do anything, make sure everything is sanitized. I donŐt want anyone getting sick, and if any bacterium gets into the wine, it will kill the yeast and stop the fermentation process, leaving you with bad grape juice.

2.     Mix grape juice with 2 parts water.

a.      The less water, the stronger the wine.

3.     Mix in just enough sugar to where it starts to turn cloudy.

a.      It would probably be best to melt the sugar into the water first to insure that it all mixes.

4.     Add half of a packet of yeast.

a.      Try not to use bread yeast. You can order wine yeast for very cheap online.

b.     Some people like activating their yeast first.

                                               i.     Add warm water and sugar to the yeast, and wait until it foams to add it to the mixture.

5.     Poke a small hole in the lid of the container.

a.      This is to let the CO2 created during fermentation out of the container.

b.     An airlock, like below, would be better because no air can get into your mix causing it to turn into vinegar, unlike a simple hole.

c.      A balloon with a couple of pin holes in it works too.

6.     Store in a cool, dark place for 10-14 days, or until the bubbles stop.

                                               i.     This is when the mixture is at its highest alcohol quantity. To get any higher you would have to ferment the wine, basically condensing the alcohol.

                                             ii.     This process also smells.

7.     Run the mixture through a coffee filter to get all of the excess sugar and yeast out.

a.      Using a siphon will cause less of the yeast to get through, thus making a better wine.

b.     Aging the wine will also make a better wine, but who wants to wait.
